It’s not hard to start publishing a media platform. Business owners do it every day. A new podcast, a weekly video, an email newsletter. Easy, easy!

The other easy part is quitting. That’s the easiest. I’ve watched it happen many times. One day/week/month, the newsletter just doesn’t show up. And then the next one doesn’t come either. And eventually, you know it’s done.

It’s not a big mystery as to why this happens. It happens because…

“IT DOESN’T WORK. NOTHING IS HAPPENING.”

The real problem is our definition of “work” and “happening.” Most of the benefits of publishing a media platform are completely invisible to you…until they become visible. And when that happens is not 100% under your control.

It may take weeks, months or years.

No one wants to hear that. We want success yesterday. But that’s silly and immature, so it shouldn’t be hard to resist going on that quest. And yet, lots of people do. That’s what they want to buy. They want to buy the stuff they think will help them get the results of real work without actually doing the real work.

If it was easy to build trust, credibility, attraction and a healthy stream of incoming business inquiries, everyone would do it and all businesses would thrive.

That obviously doesn’t happen. If you’ve been in business for more than a day, you know this.

This is a huge opportunity for anyone who is willing to invest long before they see a return. This turns out to be quite a tiny crowd. Which is perfect.

In real life, success is slow. That’s not what the gurus say, or the books promise, or the videos lead you to believe. But as far as I can tell, the ten year overnight success is pretty common.

This is no different than running a farm. Which is basically what we’re doing with a media platform. We are FARMING. On a farm, virtually all of the work is done FIRST. And then many months go by before the harvest.

If you never plant the seeds, there will never be a harvest.

The gurus will sell you access to the fast lane. Experience will show you there is no such thing.
