Lots o’ Rain 73 Degrees
5:40 a.m.
Yesterday morning, I created a one-page ad for a print magazine with a circulation of about 100K. After that I wrote an issue of a client’s weekly newsletter. After that, I wrote a promotional email to fill a live event that’s going to a list of about 70K professionals.
A.I. could have done it all more quickly. But it also would have wasted the $15K of ad spend required to publish these pieces, because it lacks the ability to generate ideas that have any value to the heart of a human.
I used to be diplomatic about the use of this tool. I am no longer. It will destroy your ability to attract business. And in many instances, it just makes you look really dumb. Some people around you will notice, but they won’t say anything. They won’t want to embarrass you and they have better things to do. I’m one of those people.
The reason you learn copywriting is because it teaches you to sell. If you want to attract clients without selling, the first step is to understand selling. That way, you can offload the work selling does onto your marketing and positioning. When you do those two things well, there’s no need to sell.
Writing is not something to “get done,” it’s an enormous point of LEVERAGE. It is a tool of alchemy if you know what you’re doing. (Almost anyone can learn.)
The other reason to become a great writer is because it forces you to become a great thinker. Bad thinkers don’t write well because good writing requires good ideas.
A.I. doesn’t think. So we hit a dead end right there if you’re looking for it to spit out anything but “put you to sleep” prose.
As compelling as this argument is for anyone serious about business, the biggest reason not to fall prey to these dumb tools is something even more insidious and evil:
Never make friends with something that takes you away from yourself.
A.I. takes you away from yourself. If you’re looking to get paid for who you are and what you do, not only is this the wrong direction, it’s the exact opposite of the right direction.
I have spent an enormous amount of hours over the past few months bringing human beings back to themselves from the clutches of this borg. These people are smart, talented, accomplished, they are winners.
But the borg doesn’t care. It treats every victim the same. It takes in human life force and returns something that feels fake, because it is fake.
A.I. is killing competency. It’s destroying excellence. It’s dumbing down humans to the point where it is creating an enormous opportunity for those who continue to develop themselves. It won’t be long until those people stick out above anyone and everyone else. It’s already obvious.
Like everything in the Matrix, it is doing all of this by your own consent.
I’m not anti-A.I., I’m anti ANYTHING that takes humans from themselves. And this garbage qualifies.
If you want to be fake, keep going. Your prospects might not notice right away. At least not their minds. Their bodies will know INSTANTLY, because the human body is perceptive. It has survival mechanisms that have been optimized over long periods of time. It can FEEL there is something missing.
Pretty soon, the bill is going to come due for the folks who continue to go down the path of the Borg. One day, you’ll wake up and have nothing REAL around you, nothing with actual MEANING. And you will have no idea what to do because you will have lost competency and connection with your own ability to navigate yourself to success.
A few years ago, I created a service to help people with their writing. I had no idea we’d be entering a time where that ability would become 100X more valuable than before. The service isn’t cheap. It’s not fast. It takes work. So if you’re lazy, you’ll hate it. But it’s open and available for anyone who wants to come back from the clutches of this stupid machine and get my personal help to do it.
If you want to become great at being YOU, then developing the power of your pen is a huge step in the right direction. It allows you to broadcast your message to the world in a way that has REAL IMPACT.
Don’t fall for the trick. Don’t believe the lie that something outside of you could better take your message to the world than YOU can. I’d be the first to admit if I saw that happening. But that’s not what is happening. What is happening is humans trading power for convenience at the price of sovereignty and connection.
If you think that’s silly, this is a wake-up call that it’s time to reconsider.
