It would be wrong to call me anti-social. Probably a better word for it is “non-social.”
I have my family, I have a tiny number of close friends, some clients who are truly amazing, and that’s about it.
You won’t see me at the party working the room or anything like that. If I even SHOW UP to the party, I’ll probably be the guy breaking all the rules of networking and talking with the same person for the entire thing. Plus, I’ll probably leave early.
I can talk with people, but doing it with a crowd is something I find draining. I seem to have a small talk allergy that is getting worse as I get wiser. As far as I know, there is no cure.
Give me one good person I can speak with, ask real questions, and truly get to know and I’m satisfied.
You would think this would be a terrible situation for a business guy trying to make it in the world. And really, you’d be right to come to that conclusion.
Except that I can write.
And writing allows me to develop strong relationships with thousands of people across the world sitting at my dining room table, in the dark of early morning, while drinking coffee. (For the record, I’ve only ever met five of the clients I’ve worked with over the past 20 years and I’ve met NONE in the past 12 years.)
Writing allows you to create an impact that is far larger than the size of your input.
This is how vibration works. It is not a linear 1+1=2. It is more like 1+1=134.
It’s not about brute force, it is about clarity of signal.
Writing isn’t how every business owner is here to communicate. Some are here to speak, others are here to show up visually, others work their magic with people who are actually in the room.
Figure out which way you’re here to spread your message and put your focus and awareness on developing mastery in that area.
If you want to write, then write. The “pay what you want” special on the Power in Print Workshop ends tonight at midnight Eastern U.S. It’s unlike any other writing resource you’ve seen.
