There are only three options:
- Prospects want what you have.
- Prospects don’t want what you have.
- Prospects don’t want what you have right now.
Only ONE of those options leads to a problem solved for the prospect. Which is why we go to so much trouble to find the way to show up so our prospects can identify us as the obvious solution to their problems.
You’re not trying to shove your product or service in their face, you’re trying to solve their problems.
Depending on your specific business, figuring out this puzzle can take some real work.
You can actually come at this from two different directions.
You can find new people for your stuff.
And you can also make new stuff for the people you already found.
I do both.
Caring whether or not they want it is something I gave up doing. I don’t care because caring doesn’t help. And really, the more you care, the more miserable you can become when others don’t care.
I’m dedicated to the journey which will produce the result. I’m not chasing the result I want because that’s a surefire way to fail.
So I make the things I want to see and set them on the shelf. What happens after I do THAT doesn’t change my next step…which is usually to make the next thing.
Some people have ONE product or service to offer to the world and they do that for 25 years.
I’m not one of those people. It’s not what I’m here to do. At least not right now!
Business is not an objective pursuit. It’s not like baking brownies where, if you follow the recipe, almost everyone will end up with great brownies.
Business is subjective. It is the expression of human life force, which is as varied as the grains of sand on the beach.
All you’re looking for is the way that works FOR YOU. So never be afraid to question the gurus, to push back on the “best practices,” to think critically about the stuff “everyone should do,” to throw all of the advice in the trash and follow your own heart.
Your path through this world of business HAS NEVER BEEN WALKED BY ANOTHER HUMAN IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY.
So there’s nothing to “look for” and everything to discover.
The real secret is to just keep walking.
