Dealing With Clients vs. Raising Kids

Children and clients have one thing in common:

They will show you where you need to grow faster than any other method I know.

Want to become a better version of yourself? Skip the meditation. Ditch the self-development programs. Don’t bother with the daily cold plunge. Just have some kids and get some clients and you’ll be set!

I didn’t realize any of this at the beginning. So I just blamed the clients. (Luckily I chose the clients and not my kids to blame.)

“No one appreciates what I do. I can’t believe he expects me to do that. I’m not his slave, he can’t just order me around. I’m not getting paid enough for this.”

For those of you who are new to my world and haven’t been around from the beginning, I’m the guy who started a website called “Clients Suck.” For the entertainment of the jury, I submit into evidence, the logo I had designed for the site:

As anyone with common sense and just a pinch of foresight might imagine, getting testimonials for the products and services I offered was rough.

Everyone agreed with what I was saying but no one could submit a testimonial because they were scared their clients would see it! Oops.

I was a business strategy genius!

The reason client work can be so profitable is because it puts you on a never ending path of improvement.

You’re getting paid to do the work, but you’re also getting upgraded with each client you serve.

If you don’t understand this, you will suffer.

I started publishing Making Clients Pay because it’s the tool I needed. (The next issue goes out tomorrow.) I didn’t have someone to keep me focused, develop my understanding, help me see a new perspective, show me how to transform my experiences into real value for myself and others.

So I just got angry. “Clients suck!” What an immature thing to say. But I fell into the client trap. I could get the clients. I could charge a lot. But I was miserable every single time!

Because of me.

If you work with clients, know that YOU have the power to transform the experience, to shift the feeling, to multiply the results you deliver and receive.

Alpha entrepreneurs will tell you client work isn’t “scalable.” That you’re trading time for money. That it’s a risky road.

What if that’s what you came to do? What if serving in this way is wired into your blood?

Every road is risky. We all die. EVERYONE is trading time for money.

Don’t let the opinions of complete strangers who aren’t living YOUR LIFE devalue what can truly be sacred work.

The first secret to being well paid is to truly FEEL the value of what you offer. That’s the source of everything good that comes next.
