Can You Get Somewhere When You Don’t Know Where You’re Going?

Without a direction, all the propulsion in the world doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get anywhere that matters.

Despite what it may or may not feel like, we all arrived here on the this plane ALREADY GOING IN A DIRECTION that was right for us. That’s the good news.

And then the Matrix got involved. It invited you to school, where another direction was presented to you. It trained you that you would be judged, that outside authorities would monitor your progress, that you needed to be well-rounded at the expense of being effective, and that it was completely sane to spend your life trying to get picked by other people so you could get paid and eat.

Anyone in business rejected at least part of this programming. That’s why I’m here writing this to you. Because I “woke up” one day and realized the life I was living wasn’t mine! It was simply the product of decisions I’d made based on the programming I’d received.

But just because I rejected the direction the Matrix wanted doesn’t mean I had any better way to go. I just knew it wasn’t THAT.

And so, over the next decade, I pieced my answer together. And the funny part (funny to other people, not to me!) is that the very thing I searched so hard for is actually the thing I’m able to give to others without even trying.

That thing is:

DIRECTION.

  • Go that way.
  • What about this?
  • Have you thought about that?
  • What if you did it this way?
  • How about you put those pieces together this other way?
  • It sounds like all you need to do is this one thing.
  • You could take that and mix it with that other thing and get something cool.

And here is where we get to the marketing lesson for the day.

You’ll never see direction for sale directly. I can’t put that up on a billboard and have anyone notice. Because no one wants it even though almost everyone needs it. What people want are the things that having direction gets them.

Things like more effective marketing, better performing sales systems, better clients, higher fees, more powerful products, valuable services, a clearer understanding about how to articulate what you do, a deeper knowledge of the gifts that make you unique and more valuable than other choices.

All of those things are impossible to do WELL without direction. So I make the things that deliver the direction that can generate the desired result.

It doesn’t matter how big or small your business is, the direction you’re headed always matters. When you’re clear about that, things go better. When you’re not, there’s a lot of wasted energy.

You know whether or not you have a direction right now, whether or not you’re clear about the next step, about how to show up, about exactly what you offer the world and how and for how much.

The people who are clear are the people who win because DIRECTION makes DECISIONS easy. And success is the net result of a never ending series of CHOICES.

This or that. Your answers are what make the difference.
