The Matrix is training you to be busy without actually doing anything valuable. It’s molding your mind to think and respond like everyone else. It’s targeting the power of your imagination and forcing it to create a future you would never choose for yourself.
Since you run a business, this adds up to one DANGEROUS situation.
The Borg has done a pretty good job of making business people online believe they have to compete with the cattle call antics of the social media platforms or else they will starve.
Do you like this illusion? Is that what you came here for? Does that seem like an activity worthy of your life? To be chained to your computer or phone so you can work like a rat to get “noticed?” What does it feel like to be in a race to the bottom?
Today is a great day to remember the value of missing out.
In other words, if it’s not made to add real value to your life: TURN IT OFF. CANCEL IT. THROW IT AWAY. TELL IT TO LEAVE. SMASH IT. And then, take a step back and only allow things into your world designed to help you win.
Much of success in business happens as a result of the decisions you make about which game to play. If you choose a game designed for you to lose, things will be tough.
As more content slop clogs more platforms and infects more brains, the most appropriate response is to tune it all out. You are too good for it. You have no business lowering yourself to its level of existence.
What do you do instead? You refine your signal in the marketplace. You improve the quality and effectiveness of your products and services. You build, tweak and optimize the systems you use to sell. You create a body of work that acts like a magnet to what you have.
And you publish and grow a media platform that can solve problems for far more of your prospective clients and customers than you could ever work with…without demanding anything in return.
Do you see the common thread in this list of activities?
They are all activities that are completely within your power to accomplish without permission, validation or acceptance.
Manipulating yourself like a spineless chameleon hoping that a Matrix algorithm “picks” you is not on the list because playing a game designed for you to lose is not a wise use of time.
The more I tune out, the better my life becomes. The more real it becomes. The calmer, quieter and more focused it becomes.
I will never be famous. I will never get billions of views or clicks. I will never be trending, featured or recommended by any slave mechanism designed to rob humanity of its creative power and consent.
Designing a business that requires you to get lucky is a decision you make. In light of the crap we’ve got going on out there, perhaps it’s time to choose different.
Miss out on more. Build things that aren’t gone with a swipe. Stand for something important. Something that makes some people uncomfortable. Help real people do something more than waste their lives by disconnecting from the present moment.
The more you embrace the value of missing out, the more powerful and effective you can be.
