During my wife’s afternoon surfing session yesterday, I was sitting on the beach with the mini-poodle (if you’re single and you want attention, get a mini-poodle!) listening to a podcast by a well-known, widely-respected and very successful business man who will remain nameless.
The podcast was different. The tone was different, the cadence was different, the exchanges with the other participants were different.
I’ll never know, but I’m pretty sure, the podcast was generated with A.I. Since perception is truth, it doesn’t really matter. That’s what my body FELT. It felt FAKE.
At that moment, I realized the true power of A.I. Not the power it has to help a business grow faster, but the power it has to destroy many years’ worth of trust, credibility and respect in a blink.
Even though technology is changing at a rapid rate, human nature is not. It is not changing at all. It is still the same as it was, the same as it will be.
And one unique feature of human nature is its dislike for being on the receiving end of people demonstrating THEY DO NOT CARE.
“Here I made this for you… but I care so little I chose to not even show up and just had my robot do it for me…” Eek!
I don’t see A.I. replacing humans, I see it clarifying and enhancing their true value. Presence is one of those value points.
For now, it seems A.I. behaves a lot like money. It simply amplifies WHO YOU ARE. If that’s a good thing, great. If it’s not, maybe tread lightly!
But if you want your clients and customers to know you care, the best way is to show them that is true. The ways you do that haven’t changed. They involve love, caring, focus and intention.
A.I. offers none of those things.
