The Recipe For Power

If success is just “more,” you’re going to lose. You might make millions, but it won’t be nearly enough.

What is success to you? No one else could possibly define that for you. The Matrix tries to do it anyway.

Success, to me, is a day with few (often zero) appointments. A day of walking. A day of thinking, learning, writing, allowing myself to “be” long enough that I can connect with my infinite self and bring it into the world where it can do some good.

Success is a day with coffee, and family who loves each other, good food, some wine and plenty of reading.

By these measures, I’ve been successful for a very long time. But you will never see a movie about this kind of success. I’m not going to appear on the front of any magazines. From the outside, my version of success looks really “boring.”

It’s exactly how I want it.

One of the biggest challenges in business is remembering that the point is to support your own life. That’s what you’re here for: YOUR life. Not someone else’s. YOUR dreams. Not someone else’s. YOUR definition of success. Not someone else’s.

If you’re not clear on what all of that should look like, what your dreams are, what you consider success, then all the work in the world isn’t going to get you there. Because you have no idea where “there” is!

Most humans are out there looking for meaning having never been told that YOU MUST SUPPLY YOUR OWN.

The secret to happiness, as far as I can tell, is to make what you want ENOUGH, and to develop the capacity to be OK even if it never happens.

They don’t teach that in school. Because that’s the recipe for power.
