When you realize you don’t have to do it like everyone else, things get much, much simpler.
When you allow all of the “musts” and “shoulds” and “best practices” and social conventions to be invalidated as little more than someone else’s opinion, you clear the playing field for something more appropriate for you.
There’s only…
- Where you’re at
- And where you’re going
How you connect those dots is up to you. (If you have no clue about the location of either of those two points, start here.)
The good news is that, whatever path you determine is best will not be a crowded road…that’s the benefit of choosing a route that is only right for one human being.
But what if you have big dreams? What if you are here to change the world?
Maybe you are. I certainly thought I was. I spent years in that idealized state without realizing that offering people things they don’t want annoys everyone involved. It might make for a good story, it doesn’t make for a rewarding business or life.
Eventually, I realized I was just wrong. I didn’t come to change the world. I came to change my world. That’s my focus.
“Isn’t that selfish, Jason?”
Of course it is. That’s the idea. I’d probably choose a better word to describe this way of being, if there was one. But the Matrix has carefully crafted the available labels for things so as not to encourage behavior that would risk its very existence.
- Imagine a world where radical self-interest became the guiding force.
- Imagine a world where it was obvious that social conventions should never interfere with a human’s expression of his internal truth.
- Imagine a world where the rules and laws men set for others were laughed at, not because the intention was not sincere, but because the idea of one human exerting authority over another would be considered insane.
- Imagine a world where difference would be revered. Where one’s internal guidance systems would be fostered and developed to lead each being to a life of fulfillment, abundance and joy.
You can’t force others to live this way, but you can choose to do it yourself. As it turns out, you’ll face very little resistance. Everyone is too focused on trying to control others or to win the approval of those trying to control others to really worry about you.
And that’s when you see yet another example of your own power. The power of a single being. The power you have to say how your life is going to go. What work you will do and what work you will reject. What “requirements” you will entertain and which ones you will ignore.
The best way to be different in business is to actually BE DIFFERENT.
It’s available to you now. It’s directly on the other side of those choices you’re too afraid to make. That’s where it’s been hiding all this time.
