The One Day a Week Business

A few years ago, I helped a business owner reconfigure the way he was working so it was more closely aligned with who he is.

I call my approach for doing this: Do What You Love and Prosper.

Despite what I was taught in school, I was never able to stomach the idea that we are here to spend our days doing things we hate for money. I certainly tried it. But it was miserable.

Unfortunately, THE CONDITIONING WAS DEEP! So it took me a while to step beyond that programming and onto a path more suited to ME.

Does that mean my life is all roses and I’m drowning in gold flowing in from the heavens? No. What it does mean is that my belief has changed and moved into the realm of absolute KNOWING. I KNOW that charting our own way and building a sustainable business doing what we love is within our grasp.

The recipe you have to work on to do what you love and prosper is a proprietary “blend” of these ingredients:

  • Who you are.
  • What you want.
  • Who you want to serve.
  • What problem you choose to solve.

Who you are is the only real constraint. To build a business without taking that into consideration seems completely unwise.

What you want is often a challenge. Many people don’t even know. They know what they’re supposed to want. They know what they’re told to want. But what they actually DO want often brings up a shrug.

Who you want to serve has many answers. Too many. But by looking through the lens of WHO YOU ARE, we can narrow down the options.

Even when you DO know where you’re aiming, exactly HOW you show up, exactly WHICH problem you choose to solve still leaves you with many options. We only need ONE. And that’s the challenge.

Each month, I open the Do What You Love and Prosper coaching program for a few days. This is a ONE-ON-ONE program where I work with you, over six months, to help you envision and build a business doing what you love or to reconfigure the business you have so it can more align with who you are.

The program is open NOW through Friday night.

What does it look like when you’re done? That depends on who you are. Here’s what it looked like for the business builder I mentioned earlier. Here’s the note he sent me:

“I’ve been absolutely loving my one-day-a-week client that I picked up after starting [name of business redacted] with your help.

The one day a week pays enough for me to live off comfortably (and I pick my own time off, tell them when I can’t make it to meetings, I chose my own rate of pay…)

And he’s just referred me to one of his contacts who has hired me based on a quick one hour call. I now truly understand that I’m hired for who I am, not what I do. And I realise that’s where all of my value is too.

It is a truly beautiful place to be, and your consistent, courageous and relentless pointing out of the ‘obvious’ has helped a great deal with that process. Thank-you from the bottom of my heart…”

What is it that you came here to do? Are you doing it? Do you want to?
