The Mob Economy

Social media has brainwashed business owners into believing they should work hard to get the attention of people who really don’t deserve them.

It’s not YOU who is the problem, the problem is that you’re aiming your awareness at a blob of barely human characters you think you want or need to reach to succeed.

These are folks who are content to be endlessly infotained by a screen at the expense of the quality of their own life. This is a being trained to have no depth, no loyalty, no direction, no meaning.

YOU WILL NOT CHANGE THIS. Even more importantly, you do not want these people as customers or clients.

Social media has entrained billions of people to supplant their own Will, their own connection to what they want, with the Will of an algorithm. And to be happy about it…on the surface. As any student of human nature can see, the price they pay for this trade is IMMENSE. LOOK AROUND.

“I don’t know what I want, dear Borg, will you please show me? And then, when I confirm your guess is correct, show me even more of it!”

This is not a surprise. This is what the masses do. Individually, people are beautiful. As a mass, they are mindless, emotionally volatile, easily swayed, and seem to lack a moral compass in ever more surprising ways. They are capable of untold atrocities under the right “leadership.”

There aren’t millions of “influencers” playing this game, there are only four. Their names are TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Youtube.

THEY influence. Everyone else conforms or they don’t get allowed to the party with the cool kids.

This is a bad deal that’s not worth any portion of your life.

What is a smart business owner supposed to do in the face of a mess like this?

At the very LEAST, control yourself enough only to offer it your money and not your awareness. Skim the cream (there’s not a lot, the 80/20 rule is a rule for a reason!) from the pile of sludge and move it into your own systems of communication.

In my experience, you can get TONS of leads this way. Unfortunately, many of them will be losers.

“Losers” believe in getting something for nothing, that anything slow is not worth it, that the number of followers or views you have means something about your value, that any prize requiring effort and work is dumb, that other people are responsible for their problems.

Ideally, you shun this beast completely and go searching for all of the completely ignored channels that were responsible for success in business for the last 20-30-40 years.

They all still exist. And certainly new ones will be created.

First, ask yourself if you’re spending more time doing your art or promoting your art?

In the social media world, it’s all promotion all the time baby. This begs an obvious question:

If you’re using all the time you have to feed the borg, what time is left to BECOME GREAT?

With that question you uncover yet another byproduct of this mass control disaster. The explosion of the mediocre into the marketplace.

In a world of dumbed-down, mindless and brainwashed people, who gets the sale? The quiet master who knows the truth, or the loud and proud amateur with a pretty Instagram feed?

I think you know the answer.

Luckily, this is temporary. It always is. A new tool or media channel comes on the scene that allows someone to portray a story that is not quite true. It’s only a matter of time before it all falls apart.

Social media has created a mob economy that will not last.

So what to do while we watch it destroy itself?

  • BE GREAT
  • Solve a real problem for others.
  • Get creative about how to show up in a way that COMMANDS attention. That’s commands, not demands, not begs, not wishes, not hopes… COMMANDS.
  • Sift and sort the buyers from the lookers.

And if you’re addicted to the snake yourself, if you fill every moment of free time with a glance down, a scroll or a swipe, try a day without the drug. Then try two. Then try six. Then drive over it with the car.

What you will discover is that space will open up. You will feel your awareness begin to expand. You will notice the way you see the world begins to shift.

After a little while, you will rekindle your connection with the Source of all that is good and new ideas will begin to flow about the way forward.

This is what the borg steals from you, with your own consent. It steals YOUR UNIQUE PICTURE OF SUCCESS and replaces it with one that suits its goals for you.

Only you have the power to fix that.
