The Game

One of the most challenging parts of business is remembering what game you’re playing:

You’re not playing the “what I have” game. You’re playing the “what they want” game.

It’s not about what you have to sell, it’s about what they want to buy. Humans are self-interested. They tend to view the world only from their own eyes. That means, they care mainly about WHAT THEY WANT.

What makes this so tough is that you’re a human too. But once you step into the world of business, you are called to a higher ideal. That ideal is putting what THEY want above what YOU want. You don’t do this because you are in the running for sainthood, you do it because it’s a better way to win the game…of business and of life.

You can tell the difference between businesses that do this well and those that don’t pretty easily.

The question is what type of business do YOU want to run.

It’s a pretty simple choice when you fully understand that your buyer is interested in only ONE of those options.

If you decide to run your business where you make it about what you have to sell, you will be treated accordingly.

If you decide to run your business where you make it about what your buyer wants, you will have a very different experience.

The important thing is that you choose. That one choice makes all of the other choices easier.
