Stepping Out of the Loop

When you step away from the world of social media and refuse to play, it doesn’t take long before you’re completely “out of the loop.”

  • “Did you see that guy on X?” No.
  • “I can’t believe he did that.” I didn’t see it.
  • “It totally went viral.” Must have missed it.

At first, it’s a weird feeling. After a while you realize it IS a loop. It’s a loop that goes around forever without anything actually happening.

When you detach from the feed (bag), your mind is liberated from the entrainment device and is free to roam about the Universe.

If you want to stick out in business, this is an important skill to develop: the ability to see differently and think differently.

It’s already wired into you. All you have to do is stay away from things that interfere with its natural state.

Humans are attracted to difference. So are herds of humans.

Once the herd is formed, the guy who is doing it differently gets that attention. They covered this on most episodes of Sesame Street 50 years ago. They figured this lesson was simple enough to communicate to seven year old kids.

You don’t have to try to be different. You already are. You have to try to not have that taken from you. You have to be smart enough not to freely give it away to a blob designed to co-opt all of your spare mental capacity while making you think you’re actually doing something.

These are not complicated concepts. But the living of them puts you in a very small group.
