If you need a one-off salesletter written to promote your product or service, I’m not your guy. That’s a low probability of success kind of venture if all you get to influence is salescopy. I don’t want to do what is required to make something like that successful. I did that for many years until it became obvious that it’s a bad business to be in.
That’s why I don’t even offer that service or anything like it. I got out of the “order taking” business years ago.
If you already know what you want, don’t come to me!.
The systems business is different. The positioning business is also different. The “let’s take a look at your entire marketing approach and all of your product/service offerings too” business is different.
Just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean it should be your business. It’s generally not that simple. Especially if you want to add an enormous amount of value to the world and be richly rewarded for it.
I’m good at writing. But I’m not a writer for hire because those guys get paid peanuts. And because clients for that kind of service already have their diagnosis and prescription and aren’t interested in changing it. And because that type of work is like trying to deliver value through a straw. If all you get to work on are the WORDS, you’re aiming high-level skills at problems that represent maybe 15% of the total solution.
There’s a difference between what you do and how you could USE what you do for a higher and more valuable purpose.
Sometimes these possibilities are easy to see, other times they are not.
But they are there, just waiting for you to discover.
Look at what you do for money. If everything is working great, don’t change it. But if you feel there should be more, start asking the Universe to show you how you might repurpose what you do for bigger things.
It took me a while to figure out that answer for myself. But it’s well worth the work.
