Yesterday I got two interesting responses from the newsletter.
The first was short and sweet. Perhaps he was paying by the word, I don’t know. The email was:
“Delete my name”
The second was also sweet. A bit longer. It began:
“Thanks for being there in my inbox – every day. It’s really appreciated.”
Same newsletter. Same writer. Two very different responses.
The first I wanted to tell about the wonders of the “unsubscribe link,” invented in 1878 to return power to the people and give back control of the inbox to humanity worldwide. (I didn’t write that. I just chuckled and clicked DELETE.)
The second will receive a thoughtful reply.
But the emails were extremely different. How is this possible?
Because it’s not about you, even when they say it’s about you. Because that’s not how humans operate.
It’s always about THEM! ALL. OF. THE. TIME.
This is just as important to remember when you get the nice messages as it is when you get the ones from the angry elves.
It’s not about you.
Why is this important? It’s important so that you don’t run your life or business based on what you GET because of what you do and you center your satisfaction and contentment around WHAT YOU DO.
If there’s no payoff in the DOING, you should find something else to do.
Because the DOING should pay you VERY WELL.
I don’t mean money. Money is a fake container we made for energy that creates suffering because everyone believes it exists and that there is only so much. (Maybe that’ll change some day, I don’t know.)
What I’m talking about is real value. Value you can feel. Do something that creates THAT FOR YOU. It can also create money but, frankly, THAT’S NOT ENOUGH.
For me, I got “paid” the moment I sent the newsletter. That happens every day. It will happen today. What I “GET” isn’t the point.
When you figure out how to LIVE that, everything changes.
