How to Be More Self-Centered

You train the world in how to deal with you.

If you don’t have the guts to do this, you will suffer.

  • If you respond at all hours of the day or night, the world will contact you at all hours expecting a response.
  • If you can be found on 40 different life-wasting social media platforms, you’ll drown in a steady stream of meaningless incoming. Worse, you’ll feel like you accomplished something by responding even though you accomplished nothing.
  • If you work for cheap, you will attract people who love cheap and nothing more.

If you show up in places where every idiot and his brother have been given a microphone, you will disappear in the noise of the pointless drivel they spew there. There’s a reason that concert halls have one stage and LOTS of chairs. Most people don’t have much worth saying. Spend three minutes on social media and get all the proof you need.

You have the power to tolerate only what you choose. Some people will have to be told and taught to stay away. Most can just be ignored.

By choosing to control your own environment, setting criteria for who has access to you, you WILL miss out. That is the point.

You will miss out on the never ending division. You will miss out on dealing with people who don’t respect you. You will miss out on working for peanuts.

Is this self-centered? YES! You’re getting it! It is self-centered. Should your life be centered on someone else? What sane individual could argue that’s a great idea?

Only the Matrix has the audacity to argue that you should not be in control of you, interested primarily in you, focused on you. The Matrix often uses its favorite tool, manmade religion, to club you over the head until you feel guilt and shame about being yourself thinking that is somehow a virtue. If you want that, go for it. Eat it up. It seems to be trending right now amongst the kids.

But if you’re here to change the world, focusing on yourself as the vehicle to deliver that change might be kind of important.

Why is there no word in our language, a word that carries a good and positive connotation, for focusing on yourself?

Is that what they tell the athletes the Matrix holds up to entertain the slaves? “You’re so self-centered. You spend all day working on YOU. How dare you!”

Nope. That’s not how that part of our story got written. That’s GOOD “selfishness” according to the Matrix. Athletes are allowed. Celebrities are allowed. Movie stars are allowed.

But you are not allowed.

In business, YOU MUST BE “SELFISH” AND “SELF-CENTERED.” If you’re not, you’ll never realize that the best way to get what you want is to help other people get what they want.

And if you don’t discover THAT, you never build anything worth having.

But it all starts with you. How you want to live. How you want to work. Who you want to be around. The change you want to see.

You get to make it all up!

Don’t act like a slave when you’re sitting in the position of the King or Queen.
