There are only so many people in the world who actually DO things.
Most people just think about doing things or talk about doing things.
So if you’re building a business where you require great people to work with, know this:
“Great,” by definition, will be a small subset of the total group of people.
Talkers tend never to become doers. So you can pretty much ignore them.
The important part of this understanding is that it helps you shift your energy from one of lack…”who out there will love me?”…to one of focused power:
“I’m looking for a very specific type of person and most of these people don’t qualify.”
That’s not “positioning,” it’s just telling yourself the truth.
We’re not looking for friends…this isn’t high school…we’re here to serve people who want to be served.
“Is that you or not?” That’s the question you’re asking the group of prospects you generate for your media platform.
That’s the energy you carry. “I’m selecting YOU.” You don’t need an attitude, you just need to know who you’re looking for and who you’re not looking for.
The reason you generate plenty of leads is because the people you actually want to work with are the minority.
They are the “winners” in the group, however you define that word.
Most of my struggles in business over the years came from hoping that prospects who were NOT the right fit would somehow wake up one day and become high-quality prospects.
That’s a ridiculous story we tell ourselves so we keep going.
The better story is to know that, within a group of 1,000 prospects, there are probably only a HANDFUL who actually take action.
When you’re okay with that, everything changes. You stop trying to convince, you stop bending over backwards to help, you just run the people through your systems and allow the winners to identify themselves.
The Matrix trains slaves to try to get picked: “Get good grades, graduate from a good school, create a great resume and maybe, just maybe, YOU too can get picked to be miserable like all of the other slaves.”
In business, YOU are the one doing the picking. Understand that. Speak like that. Act like that.
