Do This and Succeed

The first mistake is believing that anyone else could know exactly what you should do to succeed.

They might know what they did, they might know what other people did. But what you should do?

No one knows.

This is why business is worth doing. Because it is the “figuring it out” part that makes the journey worth taking.

I’ve been figuring it out, both for myself and clients, for the last 25 years. Once a problem is solved, another one pops up.

If your goal is to be problem free, you’re in the wrong business. If you like transforming problems into opportunities (some might call this alchemy), and becoming a better version of yourself in the process, this path might be for you.

Either way, it makes sense to understand what the real work is here. According to “The Book of Jason,” Chapter 7, Verse 6: “The real work is figuring things out in an effort to serve the world and be richly rewarded for it.”

And no one else has your answer for exactly how that should happen. People can help you get the answer, but they probably won’t show up with the answer already identified. That’s a good sign.

Business is very simple and very complicated all at the same time.

The art of exchange in the marketplace is simple. You provide something certain people value more than money. To acquire that something they happily make a trade.

It would be easy if that’s all that was going on. But we’re dealing with humans. This is the complicated part.

Humans are complex. They do things in their 40’s because of something that happened when they were 5. They develop irrational fears that limit them because of tough experiences from the past. They operate their world according to ideas and directives that are not even theirs.

That’s just the prospect! The business owner is the second “complicated” variable because we’ve got all that stuff going on inside of us!

And then we show up and try to help. No wonder things don’t always go so smoothly right away.

Luckily, helping other humans is worth the effort. It’s worth “figuring it out” so that you can watch the lives of others change.

The only ingredient you need to keep supplying is the willingness to move forward.

You’ll always be figuring it out. That will never change. When you are able to embrace that fact, you can look forward to whatever comes your way as an opportunity that leads you closer to success.
