Being Useful

If you want to generate more money, figure out how to be more useful.

This is very different than getting better at marketing or selling or product development.

Useful means people understand and want what you have because it makes their life better in ways that are obvious, and in ways they notice and care about.

When you step online, all you see is MARKETING. Marketing doesn’t make a business, it tells the story of the business.

The “business” is being useful to certain people in certain ways. The more obvious your utility becomes, the easier everything is.

The more useful you become, the less marketing matters, the less selling is required, the easier it is to get everything you want.

There aren’t too many business gurus telling you to be more useful. It’s not very exciting, even though it’s the most valuable thing you can do.

Being useful requires understanding, it requires caring, it requires listening, most of all, it requires putting yourself SECOND.

Business isn’t about making money, it’s about getting paid for caring about someone else.
