When You’re Never Quite Where You Want to Be

I spent almost three decades in the world of professional classical music. In the music world, there is no “end.” You’re never done. You’re never where you want to be. The moment you accomplish “A,” you set your sights on accomplishing “B.” The second that happens, that voice in your head asks you why you haven’t accomplished “C” yet.

This is no different than business, except that in business, there’s the potential for far more money to arrive into your life.

What does this mean?

It means that, if you are doing this to GET somewhere, you are going to be miserable.

What’s the alternative?

Stop attaching yourself to an outcome and start attaching yourself to a journey.

Over the past 20 years, I have discovered that only a fool dictates to the Universe how it should show up. “In five years, I’m going to be a millionaire!” is a fine goal…unless what the Universe wants is for your to be a billionaire.

I tried many times to control the Universe to do my bidding only to find out that my dreams for myself couldn’t come close to the dreams the Universe has for me.

So I stopped controlling and started BEING. Being is far more satisfying. You can accomplish just as much, but the quality of your experience changes completely.

Instead of bathing in lack, you bathe in abundance. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, you focus on what is actually going on. Instead of wondering why you’re not “there yet,” you express gratitude for the place you do find yourself.

You don’t have to be rich or smart to do this, you just have to see that the other way is empty. It’s the way the Matrix wants you to live and do business. If you fall for the trick, you miss the joy and beauty you could experience NOW and push it off onto a future time that never seems to arrive.

Is that what life is for? I don’t think it is.
