The Most Important Constraint

For somebody who values freedom, the idea of embracing constraints might seem a little weird. But constraints make decisions easier. And if they are TRUE constraints, meaning they are things you’re not going to change, then only an insane person would invest effort in trying.

WHO YOU ARE is the most valuable constraint you have. If you don’t have clarity about that, get it. Then apply what you discover to each part of your business. With this understanding of YOU, every decision becomes easier.

Success doesn’t happen when you overcome who you are, it comes only when you embrace it and discover how to use it.

Most everyone in the world of business is guessing. Guessing what will work, guessing when to do it, guessing when to change, guessing when to start over.

The list of variables is long. Which is why being able to identify one constant (YOU) in the equation is extremely important. If you don’t do that, if you don’t double down on WHO YOU ARE, the WAY YOU ARE, the WAY YOU DO THINGS, then it’s a rough road. There are just too many choices.

No one told me this years ago. I read the books, listened to the gurus, took the courses and came away with the conclusion that I had to become someone ELSE to make it. So I tried that for a long time. It didn’t work.

If you’ve been reading these messages for a while, then it’s probably pretty clear that I’M NOT LIKE ANYONE ELSE.

So I can’t do it like they do it. You might be the same way. Why wouldn’t you be? Why wouldn’t there be a unique road for you, a totally unique person?

It makes sense when you start to think about it. What DOESN’T make sense is looking at the road someone else took and thinking that road has anything to do with you. THAT’S the crazy part.

So don’t do it. Blaze your path. There’s one waiting for you. If you find it, then stay on it. If you get led astray, find your way back.

You are here to build a business in the way YOU are here to do it. Discovering what that means is part of the adventure. It’s actually the treasure we all feel like we’re looking for. It’s inside you. And it’s staring back at you in the mirror wondering when you’re going to find it.
