If you don’t create a media platform, I’m not sure HOW you build credibility and authority in a world where most of what you see is fake.
You need the body of work. Without it, there’s no proof that what you say is real.
The body of work provides the raw material your prospective buyers require to sell themselves on what you have. Without that doing the heavy lifting for you, YOU have to show up and do the selling. And no one wants to be on the receiving end of that!
I imagine it didn’t used to be this way. But then the whole world showed up online and started talking. Even though few of them have anything real to say, it’s still pretty noisy.
What this means is that competence and mastery must be demonstrated, not just communicated.
YOU MUST SHOW IT.
The good news is that fewer and fewer people care to develop competence and mastery. Entire generations seem to be skipping over that and believing that a lack of valuable skill or domain knowledge isn’t going to be a problem. They just want to click the buttons, be done and get the result without the work. That is great news. Because it means rising to the top is going to get easier and easier.
As my music teacher told me in college:
“There is plenty of room at the top.”
Nothing has changed when it comes to being GREAT: YOU CAN’T BE GREAT WITHOUT PUTTING IN THE TIME.
A.I. isn’t going to make you great. It’s going to make you a slave. And it’s going to amplify any lack of competence or inadequate level of mastery that you currently have. It’ll put that on display so everyone knows!
Do the work. Show the world. Prosper.
