If you’re doing the business just because you want to get something, you’re going to have a very different experience from the guy who is doing it because he loves it.
I know it’s not a popular topic with the gurus to make a business out of doing something you love. I guess that’s why I never get invited to their parties.
But from my perspective, doing something you don’t love just to get money makes you a slave. I don’t like being a slave, so I can’t bring myself to do that. Plus, I have an issue with discipline and willpower. So if I’m really not into something, it’s only a matter of time before I stop showing up.
Where does that leave someone like me? On a constant adventure to transform what I love doing into value for other people.
As I developed a better understanding of what I love, I shifted the way I offered that to the world.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve reinvented everything, but we’re probably getting close to 15 times by now.
Nothing really changed though. Only my perspective and my understanding…which really is everything! But from the outside looking in, I don’t think most people even noticed.
The Matrix loves to act like it has the authority to tell you how to live your life, how to do your work, and WHICH work is acceptable and which is not. I’d suggest you ignore everything it says. Everything it tries to manipulate you into doing. Everything it calls “smart,” and “reasonable” and “practical.”
You’re WAY bigger than the containers it makes to keep you small. That’s why it feels so terrible when you’re stuck inside one of them.
I felt like I was going to combust every day I went off to the few jobs I had. My poor Soul tried every way it could think of to blow up those situations, to push me through the walls of my own confinement so they would crumble, so I could understand that my path was not to be found on a map that someone else made!
The real work is to accept that no one has your answers.
Yes, we can get help on the journey. But the signal is ours alone. We are the only one who can truly hear it. We are the only one who knows whether the way we’re walking feels right or wrong.
That knowing is there for a reason. It’s to help you make adjustments so you don’t end up living a life someone else thought you should have.
Don’t ignore that knowing. Follow it. Have gratitude for it. That knowing is leading you into yourself. That’s the only journey that really matters.
