The Chase For Views

The Matrix does a good job of coercing humans into chasing things that don’t matter. If it can do that with enough people, those things eventually WILL matter. Because human perception will create that outcome.

One example is the current chase for “views.”

We have entire generations of humans who now believe that VIEWS=SUCCESS.

That’s only true if you play in a sandbox designed to MAKE IT TRUE.

In business, we used to talk about revenue and profit. But the social media quicksand pit has, over the course of quite a few years, myopically focused the game on VIEWS.

This is a race to the bottom where 99.9% of the people lose.

The best option is not to play. Just know that, if you refuse, it might take a while to figure out what game you SHOULD play. I imagine this is by design. Because it’s not always an easy journey to sort that out.

But if you find yourself chasing things that are four steps away from the actual thing you want, then perhaps that’s a clue to stand back and reassess.

Start with the goal of creating money by exchanging problems for solutions. That’s the point of business. From there, REIMAGINE the rest of the playing field. What game is being played? How does it work? What is required to win? Assume nothing. Question everything. Draw on your creative capacity to imagine possibilities that might not be obvious.

Most unconscious humans will just join the race for views. And then they’ll quit when they realize the chances of success are pretty slim.

What if the road to winning isn’t about outplaying everyone else? What if it’s simply about choosing the right game to play?
