Getting and Giving

When it comes to the order of your priorities in business, you can only have ONE at the top.

Either it’s…

“I want to get…”

Or it’s…

“I want to give…”

It might make sense that “getting” is the purpose of business. But to put at the very center of such an important activity something that is not fully within your control seems to be a rather insane act.

We don’t come doing stuff like that, we are trained into it. Trained into thinking that trying to make other people do things we want them to do is smart, virtuous, worthy of our time.

If you’ve ever tried it, you know how that story ends!

“I want to give” is a very different approach.

It is a deliberate choice to focus ONLY on that which IS fully under your control. And to allow that decision to create whatever natural response is right and true.

“Give” doesn’t mean it’s free. It doesn’t mean that money doesn’t appear. It doesn’t mean you can’t make millions of dollars. The word is used to set the intention for your work which gives the energy direction and meaning. “Get” is an attempt to move energy from them to you. “Give” is an attempt to move energy from you to them. “Get” is the energy of LACK. “Give” is the energy of ABUNDANCE.

Receiving is a natural byproduct of offering value to the world. The challenge is to give up the dictates we put on the Universe for how that’s supposed to happen. These are the activities of small minds. Of conditioned minds. Of someone so fearful he can’t “let go” and must hold on for dear life to get what he thinks he needs. “I’m going to do this and I’m going get that” is how a child thinks. That’s why they cry when it doesn’t happen the way they want.

You’re free to choose whichever path you want. But choose wisely.

Only ONE of those paths has anything to do with the priorities of the people you serve.
