Making It When You’re Not Popular

It doesn’t matter how big your list is, it matters who is on it.

Social media has trained an entire generation or two that all roads to success go through being POPULAR.

This is a lie.

If you believe it, you have to play the popular game. Do you like that game? I don’t. I didn’t come to play that. I’m NOT popular. I don’t do things the popular kids do. I’m not interested in what they’re chasing. Popular means you resonate with the masses.

I don’t.

The good news is that it is all an illusion you have to offer your CONSENT to become trapped in. “I need to get X so I can get Y” is one of the oldest Matrix tricks in the book.

Years ago, when I was still interested in traveling for business stuff, I went to Las Vegas and delivered a 45 minute presentation about BIG IDEAS and sales copywriting to a business mastermind group. There were maybe 10 people in the room.

Those 10 people ended up being responsible for putting about $53,000 into my pocket. Actually, all of that came from three of them.

It was a tiny crowd, but it was the right crowd.

Getting a CROWD today is a fool’s errand. It might happen. For a few. The good news is that you only need the right people. Social media dares to suggest its algorithm can get you in front of those right people.

I have no idea if that’s true.

But there’s a big difference between someone consuming content and actually buying. Quite a distance between hitting that “like” or “subscribe” button and taking out a credit card. That distance is where the Matrix trains you to put your hope. If you can just get that crowd, SURELY it will come with buyers.

Maybe. Probably not.

If you think better, you can sidestep the normal game and come up with your own ways to get in front of the right people. The “right people” are the ones who see what you have and say, I want that.

This is the difference between working hard and working smart. Imagine what could happen if you worked hard at working smart!

The Renegade Letter is about thinking better so you can work smarter. I looked at the marketplace and asked myself, what is missing? The answer was thinking. The answer was different perspectives. The answer was the guts to go one way when everyone else is telling you to go the other way.

So that’s what the letter is about. It’s a monthly dose of THINKING, INSIGHT, STRATEGIES and TACTICS you can use to grow your business.

Don’t fall for the traps out there. They are everywhere. Just look at anything a ton of people are hyped up about and they become pretty obvious.
